Name of Assignment: Spanish Country Project Subject: Spanish Facilitator/Teacher: Profe. Ají
Description of Work/Assignment:
In this assignment, we got into groups of 3-4 and chose a Spanish-speaking country to make a poster and oral presentation on. We had to use Spanish vocabulary that was appropriate for our level (so, for my class, Spanish 2), and use as little English during the presentation as possible.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This project addressed my communication skills. I had to verbally present the poster my group made to the class to showcase both facts about our country and our understanding of Spanish.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I’m proud of how well I was able to present this project to the class. I was really nervous about it because I hate presenting things to the class, but it actually went really well and I didn’t butcher any of the words I said. I was also able to successfully translate everything in my portion of the poster with ease, which was another thing I was really worried about.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
By improving my communication skills the way this project did, I’m a bit more comfortable with presentations. I was able to show myself that I can present well in Spanish, so I can do it in English just fine too.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
Making the poster was probably the hardest. I took all the notes on my topic in English, but translating them to Spanish was pretty difficult. I needed a friend’s help because they’re almost fluent in Spanish, which really helped, and now I know more vocabulary.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
Our poster was pretty bland, so I’d redo the poster to make it look more visually appealing. I’d also redo my portion of the verbal presentation because, while I did pretty well on it, I ended up throwing my plan to the wind and I want to try my original plan and see how it is.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I did a project a lot like this in my 7th grade Spanish class, only it was a solo project. That one was really fun to do too.
How can you apply this to future learning?
This project helped me better understand Spanish and taught me more words in Spanish. This can be applied both in the short-term and long-term future since I hope to be fluent in Spanish as an adult.
