Name of Assignment: Sketch Work - Eye Sketch Subject: Art Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Getzen
In this assignment, we were tasked with following a tutorial and sketching an eye using realism in our sketchbooks.
I feel that this project uses self-directional skills. I had to focus a lot for over a week to work on this, which took a lot of energy, as well as trying to get it to look as close to the tutorial as possible.
This actually came out really well and I'm very proud of it. I don't feel like I'm very good at drawing with pencil in general, so the fact that I drew something that looks like a grayscale photo from a small distance makes me feel really happy and accomplished.
Again, doing this actually required a lot of focus, so staying on task as well as I did was an accomplishment for me.
I had trouble making the lines and shading look as smooth as the tutorial looked because of the difference in pencil quality, which had me pretty peeved, so getting over the imperfections and the lower quality of my product was difficult. I also ended up with a really sore hand for a few days because it was a very meticulous drawing that I ended up spending about a week's worth of class on.
I'd want to try again with better quality materials and different kinds of erasers. The lady who filmed the tutorial had a number of different supplies that I don't have access to in art class, so the reason for the quality difference was pretty obvious.
Again, I can't recall ever taking an art class before, so this concept was very new to me. I knew about realism and how hard it is to achieve, but being able to accomplish it myself really made me realize how tedious is truly is.
Knowing how to draw realistic art will expand the horizon of what I can draw when I do art, which will grow my potential as an artist.
