I like to do a lot of things in my free time, if I have both motivation to do them and the time to. Some of these things include dancing, singing, theater, painting, reading, learning random facts I may never need to know, and the occasional baking. I sometimes do other things to relax and have fun, but I wouldn't really consider these hobbies. These things include swimming, hiking, photography, and playing with my dogs. I'm also in the art club, and last year, I was in student council as secretary and was also in the astronomy club.

I've been dancing and singing for a very long time, and I started acting a few years after I moved to Maui. DancingI was almost three years old when I started dancing, so I've been dancing for almost 12 years. I started in Colorado and continued dancing when I was either 5 or 6, which wasn't too long after we moved. Since then, I've taken two breaks (if I remember correctly) that spanned between one and two-and-a-half years. One was to go back to soccer for a season and the other was when I switched studios. I went from Alexander Academy of Performing Arts (I was there for about three years) to Maui Academy of Performing Arts (I've been there for another three or so years). I had to stop dancing around April because my studio shut down after a few weeks of virtual classes. I'm starting classes again within the next week or so back at Alexander Academy, as they're open again. As I write this (on October 21st), I have a placement test for two of the dances I'd like to start again on this coming Friday and next Monday. I've done ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, I took hip hop for a few weeks when I was six, and Broadway in theater. However, I've only really stuck with ballet, contemporary, and tap. SingingI've loved to sing for as long as I can remember. I was a fairly early talker, and have always loved music, so singing just made sense to me. When I was seven, I joined a spring break choir camp in Kihei where I met a friend of mine who went to Kihei Charter. I kept doing choir with this teacher for about a year before I stopped for a reason I can't remember. I was doing theater by that time, so I still had singing as a very prominent part of my life and was able to further my abilities there. I occasionally went back to my old choir teacher for audition prep for a few years after until I found a different coach. I started singing with someone I knew from my theater in the summer of 2018 to help myself prepare for an upcoming audition, and continued to see her for a little bit after the audition was over. I haven't seen her in a while, but I might start again soon. TheaterI started theater when I was seven years old. My first show was a play called Johnny Appleseed at the Iao Theater with Maui OnStage. Since then, I've been in 8 shows, two of them being plays, the other six being musicals. I've done two shows with MAPA, their production of Oliver Twist about four years ago, and their production of Frozen Junior two summers ago. Both of them were very large performances and were the biggest shows I've ever been in. I don't remember how many people were in the cast of Oliver, but Frozen Jr. had a cast of approximately 64 kids and teens. My favorite show that I've been in was either Frozen Jr. or the last show I did with Maui OnStage which was Rock of Ages (the teens version of course). While that show had a relatively small cast and we were far from professional, we all had a lot of fun and got along really well. We were being held to high standards because Rock of Ages is such a well known and loved show, but we pulled it off and most everybody loved it. Unfortunately, both MAPA and Maui OnStage aren't doing shows because of COVID, but I can't wait to get back to theater!
PaintingI've always been able to appreciate the beauty of art and paintings, but since quarantine started, I was able to really fully enjoy it. Since March, I've expanded my fairly small collection of paint (maybe six 8 ounce bottles) to I believe 30 bottles of paint now. I also have a pretty large collection of paint brushes and canvases. Over the summer, I was painting pretty regularly as a way to cope with the stress of everything. ReadingI've always loved reading as well, and have placed grades above my own in reading levels (for example, I had a sixth grade reading level in second grade), which has made reading very enjoyable for me. Once I reached a certain age, bedtime stories became more for my parents than for me, as I took to reading to them. Although, I had memorized most of my books by then, so I wasn't really reading it, more so reciting and reenacting it. I still love reading and am currently reading multiple books at different times and at different paces. ClubsI first joined a club last year (8th grade), and I had quite a bit of fun. I ran for secretary of the middle school student council and won, and I joined the school's astronomy club. While I was in student council, we had a winter wonderland themed dance in December or January, and we made the middle school yearbook. Most of the yearbook was made from home because of COVID, but I still think we did a wonderful job. This year, I was recently appointed the Vice President position in the high school art club. I made a Discord server for the club, and am a teacher in the Google Classroom we have for the club. I hope to be a part of the student government again at some point, but this year, I'd like to get the hang of high school and not stress myself out too much.
