What was the project? This was our final project for Participation in Democracy. For this assignment, we had to create a bill for the House of Representatives about a topic we had chosen previously. We had to go into a lot of detail to be as thorough as possible, and include the amount of any funding needed. This assignment will carry over into this quarter before we move on to Hawaiian History.
Why this project? I chose this work sample because I was (and still am) very proud of this assignment. I’m very passionate about the topic and I did a lot of research on it. I’m also very proud of the depth I went in to and the outcome of the project.
21st Century Skills Used: I used a variety of 21st-century skills for this project. I used informational skills to gather knowledge of the situation and any steps being taken towards solving it, as well as the public outlook on the situation. I used thinking and problem solving skills to figure out a solution for the identified problem that would benefit everyone. I used self-directional skills to stay on task and get things done. I used global awareness skills to identify the problem and show why it’s a problem, as well as the degree of the problem with facts and statistics from credible websites.
Growth Demonstrated: This challenged me because it was a fairly big project, so I had to stay on task and make sure my websites were credible before using them as sources. While doing that was irritating and I was tempted to just use whatever website I found, I had a very important topic to work on and I refused to let myself give up like that.
Area of Possible Growth: I would like to work on better managing my time, as I’m pretty sure I turned it in a little late, and while I made a very compelling bill, I would’ve liked to turn it in on time to top it all off.
