My hobbies and interests have stayed mostly the same since my last conference, but the only one I really have time for currently is dancing. I've been dancing at Alexander Academy of Performing Arts again for almost a year and I love it. I feel like I've really been able to grow as a dancer in the time I've spent with them and I never want to go back to MAPA. I'm finally on pointe and, while it's decently painful and pretty expensive, I love it so much and I'm so happy to finally be where I am. I'm currently dancing about 7 hours and 15 minutes a week, but that will most likely increase by next week (I'm so tired, it's not even funny). This is all worth it though because I'm going to be in The Nutcracker this December, so I have rehearsals on Saturday afternoons and I have another dance that I do a quick runthrough a couple times a week until we start rehearsing that dance again. I'm still singing all the time and I've really expanded the songs I listen to since last year and found a lot of new songs that I absolutely adore. I haven't done too much painting in the last few months, which makes me sad, but I'm most likely going to try and paint over fall break. I still absolutely love astronomy and other science related things, and I'm still reading some. Most of my reading is the textbook I have to read for English 100, but when I do manage to pick up a book to read for recreational purposes, I really enjoy it.

My hobbies include dancing, singing, painting, doing theater, listening to music (? If that counts as a hobby?), reading, astronomy, and I’m starting to get into creative writing. I started dancing when I was three or four, and I’ve taken a couple of breaks (like right now). Before COVID, I was dancing with MAPA, and before MAPA, I was dancing with Alexander Academy of Performing Arts. I started doing theater when I was seven, and since then, I’ve made quite a few friends there, and some of my friends from school have started doing it too. I usually do theater at the Iao Theater with Maui OnStage, but I’ve done a few shows with MAPA. I usually just sing for fun, but I did choir for about a year, and I’ve had a couple of vocal coaches in the past. I’ve only recently taken up painting (since COVID started), but I got into it very quickly. Since March, I’ve grown my paint collection to fill a bag with about 30 bottles of paint and I have many brushes and canvases. I’ve been fascinated with space for quite a while, but I’ve been more into it as of late.
I seem to have lost a few friends in the last few months, but those I’ve been able to keep are my friends Lily, Emerson, Ashlyn, Rylynn, Kaitlin, Tanya, Brooke, and I made a new friend, Tara. I’ve only been able to see all of them once or twice since summer, but I loved seeing them. I spend time with all of my immediate family (minus my brother), and we do things together frequently, even if it’s just watching a movie or talking. As a write this (on 10/13/20), my dad is in Colorado, so I’ve spent the week with my mom and I won’t be seeing him for a little longer (between a week and three or so weeks). I also have three dogs who I love to spend time with, and two cats who give me love sometimes (one of them seems to love my dad more than me :( ) This year, my favorite subjects are math and humanities, but just in general, I prefer sciences, math, and languages that aren’t English. I’m really excited about chemistry next year, as that’s the broader science I need for one of my desired career paths. I would like to go into a science-based career, either as a forensic scientist or an epidemiologist. For college, I’d like to go to the California Institute of Technology in southern California. This college interests me because they have good math and science courses, I have a lot of family in that part of California, and I have a pretty good chance of getting in. The wife of a friend of my mom’s boyfriend works at Caltech and said that they’re looking for more female enrollment around the time my sister and I would be graduating, and she said that with our grade history and work ethic, we had a good chance of getting in.
I’d like to go to New York, Switzerland, New Zealand, and back to France and the Netherlands. I would really like to go into the work force under a science career, preferably as a forensic scientist or epidemiologist. If I can’t do either of those things, I might be interested in dancing professionally. Not as a ballerina or something like that, but in groups and shows as a lyrical or Broadway style dancer. I’d like to be a better public speaker so that I can voice my opinions about important topics without the constant fear of being judged. I’d like to be able to help out at animal shelters and maybe foster some animals as well so that they have the nutrition and warmth they need. |
